The collection consists of the papers of James Franklin "Frank" Buchanan from 1907-1991. The papers are divided into four sections: family papers, photographs, professional papers,and school papers. Materials heavily represented include correspondence, datebooks, genealogy notes, photographs school notes, work notes, and some World War II items (letters, photographs, and personal account).

Scope and Content The World War II Correspondence Series of the G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery papers contains letters home from Congressman Montgomery to his mother and step-father from 1943 to 1946. It also includes Montgomery's military records and other military correspondence from 1947 to 1967. The correspondence is arranged chronologically and also contains copies of Orders, brochures and pamphlets, and other items he sent home. Photocopied records of men who served in the German S.S. Cavalry from 1930 to 1945. Purchased from the Berlin Document Center in 1990 and received in 2006 from Dr. Johnpeter Grill. Records are written entirely in German. Some photocopies of photographs of the men are included in their records.

Letters between Ottis and Jessie Dola Ballard written during World War II, military records, Bible and artifacts related to Ottis Ballard's military service in Africa and Italy. Also includes four issues (1943-1944) of the newsletter published by the Gulf Ordinance Plant in Prairie, Mississippi, part of the defense industry during World War II. Jessie Dola Ballard worked for the plant during the war.
